Overview

Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Narvarte Poniente in Ciudad de México, Taqueria La Costilla offers an authentic taste of Mexican street food elevated by its focus on quality and bold flavors. This taqueria stands out as a destination for taco enthusiasts seeking a hearty yet genuine experience, especially those eager to explore beyond the typical offerings of CDMX’s well-trodden taco scene.

The star of the menu is undeniably the Taco de Costilla. These tacos showcase tender, richly flavored rib meat expertly cooked to retain juiciness and depth. Wrapped in soft corn tortillas, each bite delivers a balance of savory fat and smoky notes. Complementing this are other robust choices like the Alambre Suizo, which combines grilled meat, poblano peppers, and melted cheese, crafting an indulgent assembly that sings of traditional Mexican comfort food.

One cannot visit without sampling the garlic tostadas. Praised by many local visitors and travelers alike, this simple dish features crisp, charred tortillas slathered with a vibrant garlic paste. It's a humble yet unforgettable snack that captures the essence of Mexican street fare—simple ingredients elevated through technique and bold seasoning. This dish alone makes Taqueria La Costilla a must-visit stop.

Accompanying these highlights is a selection of classic Mexican sides like Frijoles Charros and freshly prepared Pico de Gallo, which bring brightness and textural contrast to the meal. Varied salsas, including a notable salsa verde, offer personalized heat and acidity, allowing diners to tailor each taco to their palate.

The taqueria’s atmosphere is casual and lively, befitting a street corner eatery in a bustling residential area. The ordering system is straightforward, with guests filling out their choices on a sheet, which streamlines the experience even during busy hours. While the service is efficient, some reviews suggest it could benefit from a warmer touch, though this does little to deter from the overall appeal.

Taqueria La Costilla caters primarily to locals and adventurous food lovers who appreciate authentic Mexican flavors without the pretense often found in tourist-focused eateries. Its location in Narvarte Poniente makes it accessible for those looking to venture off the beaten path and enjoy a genuine slice of CDMX street food culture in a comfortable, unpretentious setting.

In summary, Taqueria La Costilla delivers a memorable Mexican street food experience built around its signature tacos and standout garlic tostadas. It’s a place where each dish feels thoughtfully prepared, inviting visitors to savor the rich culinary heritage of Mexico City one bite at a time.

Ok, this place is an absolute must. It's different from the many other taco places in CDMX, and it's worth a detour. They have an amazing snack - a crispy, charred tortilla with a garlic paste on top. It's very simple, but one of the most delicious dishes we had on our trip. Don't miss this.

Good tacos! Only had the Bistec, good amount of meat and good salsas. Service is pretty fast, could be a bit more kind. You order over a sheet of paper you fill out, clear and easy. The atmosphere is normal for a street corner taco restaurant. I would go again, probably prefer the street stands around though.

Came here as our first stop on a food tour and had the garlic tostadas and vulcan with steak - both were simply food heaven! Highly recommended if visiting CDMX

You can order to go or eat there. You are a given a sheet of paper to mark your choices for the table and the waiters will take it to the kitchen. You do get multiple of each item with 1 order. As others have said the tostadas de ajo or garlic tostados are a must for garlic lovers. They make a lovely appetizer to share, but vampires beware The bistec tacos were very generous with the meat. The volcán de carne (bistec) were super tasty!! I believe it is Oaxacan cheese mixed with the bistec. A very nice bite with the provided salas. The horchata was delicious and just as I remember growing up. The team working here are HUSTLING so great job to them. I would definitely grab food from here again.

So funny story i misread the menu and accidentally got 16 of the costilla suiza tacos. Beware, the price listed is for 4 tacos!!! However they were excellent, even after microwaved the next day. Would definitely return to eat fresh
